The accommodation comprises a four storey house  right in the centre of Bagnères de Bigorre in the Hautes Pyrenees. It is situated in a pleasant square, Place Jeanne d’Albret, and only two minutes walking distance to the town centre with its shops, bakeries, restaurants, squares and churches. It has recently been completely renovated and where possible all the original features have been kept. It is a typical old French town house of the area and is around 300 years old although its foundations go back 400 years. The character of this house remains untouched whilst containing all the necessary ‘mod cons’ for modern living.

It has a traditional dining room with an adjacent modern kitchen. There are 3 double bedrooms on the 2nd floor, 2 of which have a double bed and the other has 2 single beds. Two of the bedrooms have balconies overlooking the square.

There are 2 bathrooms and each has both a bath and shower. There are 3 separate toilets and a store room for skis, bikes and other hobby equipment.

There is an English TV in the sitting room and French TV in one of the bedrooms. Satellite Television is available in the sitting room with a free broadband internet connection should you feel the need to keep in touch back home. There is also free telephone use for UK, Europe and the USA. All the plumbing and heating has been updated so any baths or showers needed at the end of the day walking or skiing are guaranteed. There is also an attic studio with a bedroom and sitting room. The attics lead out onto a sun terrace which is quite private for sun bathing. The bedroom has a single bed and wash basin and there is a folding bed which doubles as a settee in the sitting room. The house can accommodate up to eight people comfortably.

Hautes-Pyrénées

Hautes-Pyrénées is in the South West region of France. It is a mountainous agricultural landscape of villages, farms, upland pastures and winding mountain roads. It is near the border of Spain.

Bagnères can be enjoyed all the year round. In the spring, summer and autumn months you can walk, cycle or mountain bike through stunning countryside. The weather is gloriously warm and sunny and you can enjoy the atmosphere and people watch in many outside cafes in the town squares. Often there are warm sunny days in the winter months when there can be the added enjoyment of downhill skiing, cross country skiing and raquetting (snow shoe walking) .

Fishing is good here with opportunities to fish in mountain lakes and rivers. The wild life is abundant (including our recently imported bears) and bird watching opportunities are considerable. Bagnéres de Bigorre is set in a valley with mountains surrounding it and the foot hills start just behind the house.

There are many sports and leisure activities for the amateur through to the real enthusiast. La Mongie, the largest ski station in the Pyrenees, is only 25 kms/15.5 miles away and Bagneres offers a regular bus service to this little known but excellent ski resort. There are many walks of different durations and challenge which start 2 minutes away from my house.

It is an old and interesting town with many buildings dating back to the 14th century and it still has Les Halles, a covered and daily market. There is also a thermal swimming pool, a casino, art gallery and a museum. There are many events and cultural activities all the year round. Facilities for babies and the very young. We don't recommend you bring children under 5, as we don't have any special facilities for them in the house, and the facilities in resort are fairly sparse for youngsters.

Restaurants Restaurants are well positioned in both La Mongie and Bareges. In the town of La Mongie there are plentiful restaurants, whilst on the mountain the restaurants are good and well positioned. Some will even allow you to eat your packed meal ('pique nique') in their premises.
